Not quite sure how I got 19.9 into it? Not much loss on DC. Maybe it's been doing some levelling?

  • So I have some more info for the BEV heat pump.

  • User information

If complaints are made regarding the heating mode and cooling, this test module can be used to diagnose the fault cause.

A fault in the heat pump circuit can be caused by a defect or problem in one or more system components in the heat pump circuit.

In order to demonstrate the operating principle of the heat pump circuit, its functional concept and the system components are described below.

    The heat pump circuit

The heat pump uses the heat from the ambient temperature to heat up the passenger compartment if ambient temperature are below 17 °C by means of the refrigerant circuit. This reduces the use of the electric auxiliary heater, saves energy and increases the range of the vehicle.

Operating principle of the heat pump circuit

The heat pump is not an individual component, but a system.

With the help of the system components of the heat pump, the following functions are realised:

    Heating of the passenger compartment

    Cooling of the passenger compartment

    Cooling of the high-voltage battery

The heat pump circuit consists of a refrigerant circuit and a cooling circuit.

    1. Cooling of the passenger compartment

A heat pump is not necessary to cool the passenger compartment and the high-voltage battery. A standard refrigerant circuit would suffice. The components of a standard refrigerant circuit are integrated in the heat pump circuit. For the cooling mode, the components of the heat pump circuit are adjusted in such a way that they correspond to a standard refrigerant circuit.

For cooling the passenger compartment, refrigerant in the form of gas is condensed and thereby liquefied by the electric A/C compressor. This results in the heating up of the refrigerant. The heat is discharged into the surrounding area via the ambient heat exchanger. The refrigerant is then led to the evaporator, where it passes into the aggregate state of the gas form again with the help of an expansion valve heat pump circuit in the evaporator. As a result, the refrigerant in the form of gas withdraws the heat from the surrounding area and cools off the evaporator. The evaporator cools down the air flowing by. The cooled down air is routed into the passenger compartment.

    2. Heating of the passenger compartment

In principle, the coolant in the cooling circuit must be heated to heat the passenger compartment. In the heat exchanger, the heated coolant passes the heat to the air flowing by. The heated air is routed into the passenger compartment.

To heat the coolant, the following components are used:

    The electric auxiliary heater

The electric auxiliary heater heats up the coolant with the help of an electrically operated heating element.

    The refrigerant circuit

The electric A/C compressor generates the heat by compressing the refrigerant. The heat is not passed to the ambient air but routed to the heat pump heat exchanger. The heat pump heat exchanger delivers the heat of the refrigerant circuit to the cooling circuit.

If the passenger compartment is to be heated up, the components of the heat pump circuit are used differently according to the ambient contitions.

At ambient temperatures below 17 °C, the heat pump circuit is used.

At ambient temperatures greater than 17 °C, only the electric auxiliary heater is used.

For cooling the high-voltage battery, the passenger compartment blown air is dehumidifed and during particular requirements of the control, the heat pump circuit is operated in mixed operation. By doing this, the refrigerant circuit is used for cooling the evaporator and the heat generated by the compression process is used to heat up the cooling circuit.

Depending on the request (heating mode, mixed operation or cooling) the refrigerant must be routed through the various components of the refrigerant circuit.

The control of the refrigerent flow in the refrigerant circuit is made via 4 refrigerant shutoff valves and 3 expansion valves.

The refrigerant circuit is regulated by means of 3 temperature sensors and 2 refrigerant pressure temperature sensors.

The activation of the sensors and valves takes place via the heat pump controller.

    System components

The components of the heat pump circuit:

    Auxiliary water pump

    Ambient heat exchanger

    Refrigerant pressure temperature sensor

Shutoff valve of heat pump circuit (optional)

Expansion valve of heat pump circuit

Temperature sensor of heat pump circuit

    Electric A/C compressor

    Evaporator

    Electric auxiliary heater

    Heat pump heat exchanger

    Dryer flask

    Evaporator of the high-voltage battery

"15 years ago, former Saudi oil minister, Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, said that a moment of reckoning was coming for the oil industry. 'Thirty years from now there will be a huge amount of oil — and no buyers. Oil will be left in the ground. The Stone Age came to an end, [but] not because we had a lack of stones.'"

  • My feelings for OPEC for everyone to see everyday I drive electric.

  • Do we? My generation is far less interested in this- I think this is a dying fallacy that bigger is better, at least in the more progressive states.

  • OPEC having to reduce oil prices in an attempt to choke off fraking, I think they must also realise that increasing electric car ownership, will also go against them and stop them raising the price again, and hopefully in the long term break their hold on pricing and maybe even result in them having to leaving the oil in the ground.

  • Yes, drain it all and I'd recommend flushing it with the hose pipe but you won't fully get the engine without a lot of effort. Best to drain and assess what the coolant is like from there as you'd need to buy a new engine drain plug if you wanted to go belt and braces.

  • i was thinking it might be control module as my mates m3 one went and he replaced it and was all working again

  • Stick to close as possible to russian border on your way up. Depending how much gravel you want travel but stay eastern side of road 6 and there is many nature-parks and wilderness. Pielinen, Koli, Koitere, Ruunaankoski etc are points to head. Up towards Rovaniemi to see Santa Claus ;) Road 63 and roads east of it are all good. 3-4 digit roads are nicest but not necessary easiest.

73 after Lieksa or 524 is nice towards Kuhmo and Sotkamo.

  • Forget the hammocks and bivanoraks, choose a 3-season tent and a similar sleeping bag. I've used Halti Koli 2 for all my single trips. Ref. http://www.halti.com/collections/tents/products/ko li-finland-2-3-teltta

  • Hubcentric start from 12mm which have extended bolts. I ran 20mm with extended bolts with no issues for over 2 years and I drive hard! Anything over 20mm I'd go for bolt on spacers. Avoid cheap ones. H&R are generally regarded as the best as the threaded part is a steel insert into the alloy spacer rather than the thread just being cut into the alloy. I tend to torque my wheels up to 125nm with spacers rather than 120nm just for added piece of mind

  • Jason torque them to 140nm mate. Always go 20 more for spacers :)
