So, I'm fed up with trying to get the JB4 interface on my laptop. I may be missing a step but idk how.. The directions are simple stupid. Certain drivers aren't getting downloaded either and I'm just done for tonight. All I want to do is read and understand what these fucking codes mean. If you guys wouldn't mind sharing some of your wisdom.. It would be greatly appreciated.

Codes: C780, 9F42, EF42, F6C2.

Just installed downpipes and had my intake valves cleaned.

Joined the flat tire club tonight. Used the kit and the sealant (didn't know it was sealant til I got home and saw all the white stuff I had to clean off the car)...got home ok and the tire appears to be holding air. Lost some air while getting home so I filled up to 35 psi, reset the TPMS and drove around and it stayed the same, so we'll see in the morning.

If the sealant did it's job - I still want to get it patched/plugged - right? Any other recommendations?

  • I'd suggest needle-nose pliers, in case you have to dig deep into the tread to grab the head of a finishing nail.

  • Thanks all. Mary Demarest-Paraan if i just get it plugged then ill still need to get the tire removed to clean out the goo. In your opinion is it ok to just get the goo cleaned out later when i eventually get new tires? im at arouns 9k on these ones.

  • Update: patched from the inside. All is well.

Green Companies The tops in the Auto biz — BMW i3

Green Companies, The tops in the Auto biz?

BMW.

In Newsweek's Global 500 list of the greenest 500 largest publicly-traded companies in the world, BMW ranked best among automakers at Number 26. Not surprisingly, Toyota was close behind at 35, while Nissan came in at 152. What's a little more puzzling is that Tesla fell behind Ford (178), and General Motors (289). That's a lot of pickups versus a few Model S EVs. Go figure. Then came Hyundai (306) and Honda (316), which are a little more palatable. Tesla? It came in at 431.

  • It looks like an EV from seven major manufactures is more environmentally sound than an EV from Tesla. However it's still probably better to have a Tesla than a gas car.

Some time ago, there was a brief exchange on this site about "Load Balance EV Charging" for multi family buildings, designed to accommodate older facilities where the electrical infrastructure wouldn't otherwise allow the number of EVSE's required. The system held a cue system for charging activity, and scheduled charging as the voltage was available based on a preloaded set of priorities. Anybody have inputs or clues on where I can dig up some info on this?

  • Quint, Where are you located? Could you PM me with any details, like how many users, how it works, etc?

  • Hi Mike, I'm in San Francisco CA. It's a big building with 2 garages. With an initial outlay by the HOA of only $6000 we got a system that can support about 30 EV build-outs with only six 208V HOA house power sources.

Each EV owner gets a charger at their deeded parking spot that they pay for and own on their condo title. They pay about $3500 for the install and the EverCharge charger. The monthly is $15 + pass thru charge for the electricity used. The HOA gets a check from EverCharge once a year to pay back for the HOA house power used.

It's really the only reasonable solution I could find. Zero burden on the HOA as EverCharge does the billing and maintenance on the chargers. We love it. We now have 3 EVs on our property!

  • Mike, just sent my research DOCs based on several hours of legal review by myself and our building lawyers.

  • When the car is off, I'm not sure the HV battery will periodically connect to recharge the 12V battery (which powers the light, like any other car.)

So, either the 12V get recharged from the HV and then the parking light could last virtually forever (that is, until the HV battery is empty too.)

Or the HV battery doesn't charge the 12V when the car is off, and in this case the parking lights will last as long as in any ICE car (and you'd also get stuck, unable to start the car normally afterwards, just like in an ICE.)

  • On an Audi site referring to "Euro Parking Lights

This was a neat find. In Europe and maybe other countries you can leave one side of your parking lights on when leaving your car parked on the road. I was told this was to allow your car to be more visible in tight streets when parked at night.

To use the feature you turn of your car then move your indicator stalk to the left turn signal position or the right turn position depending on what side you want your lights on."

  • My e46 did that, I never found a reason to use it though.

  • I hope so, a BMW insider commented on a thread about it in a forum and he said while it hasn't been ruled out it also hasn't been green-lighted. He did mention that the hybrid drivetrain that is in the 3 announced vehicles (x5 40e, 330e and 740e) would be coming to the next gen x3 and x1. I responded that I hope they do green-light an iSAV with REx option as most people that have converted to EV's are not going back and tend to think hybrids just complicate ICE with expensive parts and lousy EV only range.

Last night, driving in the rain on a cool summer evening in the 60s (F), I got a warning that my tire pressure was low. Thinking that I must be another victim of a flat tire, I pulled off. Checking my TPMS, it said my front tires were just over 30 psi and the rear 37 psi, give or take a few tenths. My old-fashioned stick-style pressure gauge said they were at 32 front/41 rear. I reset the TPMS and drove off and have had no further warnings. The TPMS is still reading lower than my manual gauge, but no alarms.

I thought perhaps there was an option to adjust when to alert for low pressure, but not that I can find. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? I'll certainly ask the dealer the next time I'm getting the car washed.

I parked at the hospital today and when I got back to the car I had a ticket for taking up two spaces. I'm 95% sure I did no such thing. I didn't actually read the ticket until after I pulled out.

I've been parking cars for over 30 years and I'm pretty sure I know when I've done a sucky job of it. I think I got singled out because the car looks "different".

Here s the amount of noise I hear inside my i3 when I pass by some trucks — BMW i3

Here's the amount of noise I hear inside my i3 when I pass by some trucks. You can clearly hear the tire/engine noise of the trucks. This is with windows up. Agreed partly with the observation that because i3 has no interior noise compared to ICE cars that could possibly make the exterior noise seem louder but still seems a bit too much.

%d comments
  • It's definitely more noisy in ur i3.

  • Marcus Pugh, I specifically turned off the stereo to capture the noise level :) Don Culbertson I do have HK stereo but I got that for its music quality not to drown out road noise :) Anyway taking the car next week to the dealer about this issue.
