North Coast 500 — BMW e60 e61 Owners Forum UK

••• North Coast 500 •••

Is there anybody in the Scotland region that would be interested in making and event of this? (Or anyone who is willing to travel, everybody is welcome!)

For those who don't know what Coast 500 is. It's a 500 mile trip around the top coast of Scotland (Pretty self explanatory in the name I know but for those who don't know)

Never done it before but heard it's a great drive with great roads and loads of views.

Would be interested to see if anybody would be keen for this and also when we could plan it for?

Once I hear back from people I'll make it official and create a event if there's a good response!

Comment and let me know!

Does anyone else have a bit of a juddery engine. 535d. on idle when warming up — BMW e60 e61 Owners Forum UK

Does anyone else have a bit of a juddery engine (535d) on idle when warming up. Not really cold but after driving a bit when you stop again in traffic. It's then smooth again when moving can feel the car shaking, maybe the odd misfire.

Not sure what it could be garage changed vacuum hoses and glow plug controller. Still does it.

Bmw e60 530d drove to work last night power steering was not working was impossible to turn few revs was fine.

This morning started car up fine then left it outside the office key turned so I drive was running but not engine 5 minutes later was dead jump started it was ok then jus died bought a new Bosch battery that was huge and did my back in fitting it and cost me £270 got it tested only getting 11v-13v jumping up n down jus bought alternator £450 wondering if that would sort the power steering out I'm assuming even though it takes power steering fluid the alternator is messing up the power steering with low voltage ?

Anyone been successful in touching up your paint. I've got quite a few stone chips and trailing a few ways to touch up the paint.

          Any tips from you guys.

I used 2000 grit wet and dry on the end of a pencil rubber, wax and grease remover to clean up and then touched up with colour and the clear. Will wait for a day to dry then sand and polish.

Well fook me ! Has anyones dashcam EVER taken footage of a car going into a BMW Maindealer. Twice now mine has gone in, today to have a free wash and all the files captured are "unreadable". The seconds I drove up fine....the moment I got in the car to drive away fine....but the files inbetween ALL corrupted. Do they block them from working properly ?

Anyone give me some help on this,.. Got a 525d msport 05, it started holding back abit before the turbo come in and the revs seemed to be abit jumpy so I was told to unplug the air flow meter, that seemed to stop it so iv just left it unplugged but every now an the the engine man light comes up and on the bottem of the screen it's saying engine fault reduced power, it will start holding back before the turbo comes in an again the revs seem to be jumpy,.. Also iv noticed the sound of the car is different, like it's more deeper like some thing is blocked, but once iv knocked it off n on again to goes away, cheers

Hi — BMW e60 e61 Owners Forum UK

                  Hi,

My 2007 LCI E60 523i Auto throws a gearbox error.

It only happens when I use kickdown and within seconds of lifting off accelerator, I slighty touch the brake and it throws the gearbox into limp mode. The fault clears when I pull over turn off the car and then turn it back on. Its been back and fourth with the garage. Im beginning to think it's the car protecting the gearbox.

Any help would be genuinely appreciated!

                  Thanks.

I'm a manual type of guy and I had a 530D manual before but really want a 535D now, will I miss the clutch or will the power and smoothness make up for it. I had a E46 M3 smg a good few years ago and I missed the clutch a little then but I'm more of a family guy now and tbh the other half will drive it more than me anyways

I have a manual 530D, which from my understanding isn't the easiest to come across considering how many are auto. I've also noticed that all 535D and upwards are auto. Does anyone here consider driving an auto fun? More fun than a manual? I've never seen the appeal which is why I specifically went for a manual, but it can't be THAT bad, can it?

Question for the knowledgable ones, as you can see my E60 has the orange lights as side lights (is this the us style side light? I don't know) anyway my angel eyes will sometimes flicker which leads me to the question, do they actually work but they have been uncoded for the us style side lights? Tia.

Alight guys I'm still struggling with a battery drain issue. Car drives fine. Started fine this morning, started fine after sitting 8 hours at work, wouldn't start after sitting 10 minutes at the store. Battery is less than 4 months old, IBS has been disconnected. I plan on taking the car to a dealership when I have time, but anything else I can try until then? Would the positive battery cable issue that was recalled have anything to do with it if it wasn't repaired by the previous owner? Could it possibly be a bad alternator, without a warning message coming up. Pfa.

Anyone had problems with radio going off at times? Sometimes it can happen a couple of times in one day but then can go a week without happening again? Sometimes it can be as simple as turning car off then back on or it turns itself back on. When it goes off tho i can still plug my phone in and use it thatway with no problems. Read on a bmw site that people with nav have these problems but mine doesnt have nav. Also if it were amp problems i would have thought it would stay off when i plug my phone into aux also?

Hey guys I just stumbled on a feature that I wasn t aware of on my car — BMW e60 e61 Owners Forum UK

Hey guys, I just stumbled on a feature that I wasn't aware of on my car. My comfort seat can tilt the upper half of the backrest, wow so comfy now, why didn't I know this earlier lol !!!

So this got me thinking, what other cool features don't I know about, list them guys.

I'll start with a few that I've discovered along the way.

                                  • if you position your mirror switch to the left side, when you put it in reverse it tilts down to see the kerb

                                  • if you put your remote in the ignition it recharges it

                                  • if you accidentally leave your key in the boot and close it, the boot will pop open again

                                  • the USB in your middle console can play MP3s

                                  • if you press and hold down the lock button on your remote it will close all windows, sunroof and also fold your mirrors

So let's see what else is out there

Advice please fellas. Overtaking hard today on a long uphill section. Car lost all power. Was in sport mode. It drove ok but appeared to be in limp mode so no power. No warnings on dash. Pulled over, turned off and back on and been fine since. 2007 535d with flappy paddle SAT box. What you reckon? Vac hoses? Just had 6 new injectors. No dpf. Dpf coded out. 145k miles. In for remap Tuesday. Thanks!

I'm after some advice on what could be wrong with my E60 530d on a 05 plate

I had issues with the smell of fumes in the car on first start up and losing power between 2500-3000 rpm

I have changed the exhaust manifold as I was cracked in 4 places

Took it for a test drive when back together and still losing power

Any ideas please as this is really starting to bug me

Anyone know how the bulbs adjust up and down using the wheel button near the light switches? I've moved the wheel up and down and the bulbs don't seem to move. But, I've also had the headlights in pieces and I can't see anything that would move the bulbs up and down in any case, is there a motor I'm missing?

So my first post here but hopefully it'll help anyone who is looking to change their E60 lights to LED. Firstly I changed my number plate light bulbs to LED and quickly realised they were flicking which seems like a common problem on the E60. After doing a bit of research I realised I needed to learn how to use NCS to code out the hot/cold bulb checks. Doesn't matter in my experience whether they are cheap LED's or not, they all seem to flicker. I coded out all of the bulb checks and solved the number plate LED flicker. I then changed my angel eye bulbs to LED, easy. After research on which bulb to change to I also realised it didn't matter, the brighter they are the more they bleed and less they show the angel eye rings off. A standard forward facing LED was sufficient. But I still choose one with two side facing LED's as I felt a little bleed out made them look a bit brighter. I then ordered some 9000 lumen h7 low beam bulbs from China, Night Eye. Went to install them thinking they're h7 it'll be easy. No! BMW use metal retaining clips to hold the standard h7 bulb in place and they don't fit over the LED bulbs you buy. I scraped the retaining clips and made some small metal brackets which screwed in via the screws holding the retaining clip. Not hard but does require a little DIY to make fit. Easier to do all of this with the headlight out which is just 4 bolts per light. Pictures attached. Really pleased with the way they've turned out and up against my dads Audi with HID's they look much brighter.

Can only assume it was because of all the torrential rain we had from storm Doris, all the seals look good so can't see anywhere obvious where it would leak from, and my dad opened the door so I don't know whether it was closed properly, is hoping it wasn't closed properly and that's why it's leaked. Thermostats last week — BMW e60 e61 Owners Forum UK

                                                    Thermostats last week.

                                                    Service Wednesday.

                                                    I have a one owner from new 2008 535d lci m sport.

                                                    I'm the 2nd owner.

It has full bmw history. My independent garage that did the stats said it needs an oil change like...yesterday.

Coincidentally the service warning for oil came on yesterday.

It's a trusted garage and I have used them for years...but i still like to do my homework on what's needed.

So ...it's got 78k on the clock.

What, altogether should I be asking him to do?

I've asked him to find out about a gearbox service.

                                                    All advice appreciated ☺
