So, recently, my battery has been dying like there's no tomorrow. My alarm went off at 5am two days ago, and it killed the battery. Today, it just started hollering some more for no reason. Is this a sign that my battery needs to be replaced?

I jumped off this morning and went around the block (took the scenic route), backed in and shut off...I waited a few minutes and crunk right back up. Twice........I admit, my lights were on for two hours yesterday at work. ....fabulous kush...

Where did I go wrong? Wut do I need to do to resolve the issue?

So, I noticed a couple of times last week that my starts were a little louder than normal and then on Saturday I got this noise and an SES light. Unfortunately, my wife loaned my scanner to her friend so I couldn't pull codes before posting. 172k on the clock. I am hoping this is not what I think it is. Any feedback is appreciated. Rog

Ok...so, my passenger side front door can wait. I need help troubleshooting the brake lights. Every thing works on the tail lights except the brake light. I checked all the fuses (under the hood, at least), installed New 7506 Sylvania bulbs - the turn signals work completely fine - and nothing. I've yet to begin checking the brake light switch as I'm hoping that is not the case.......But even the third brake light (in the window) won't come on. What can I do to avoid being pulled over bc of a brake light? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Problem Battery frequently dead dying My son had his 2000 735i in Amsterdam... — BMW E38 forum

Problem: Battery frequently dead/dying. My son had his 2000 735i in Amsterdam while at the University. (And nicely serviced by Edwin who's not far away.) But he was too busy to drive it; after several weeks in the parking garage, it wouldn't start (naturally). Thus, he brought it to me in Berlin at Christmas. Since then: 1) no problem for the first few weeks (driving once a week) 2) Didn't drive for 8 days, car wouldn't turn over. Jumped it and drove for 20 minutes; 3) Four days later (Sunday to Thursday), started immediately. Ran it for a few minutes (until the idle went down) but didn't drive it; 4) Today, Saturday (two days later), it wouldn't turn over. Jumped it and drove for 20 minutes.Parked for 30 minutes, started, and drove 20 minutes back to the parking garage.

I'm thinking (but may be wrong): 1) The battery is damaged (but this was purchased new in about mid-2016); or 2) there is an unusual drain on the battery when the car is parked. (And if so, how would I find it?)

728i auto fsh 11 months mot very clean — BMW E38 forum

              Now on ebay

              Ebay.co.uk/itm/201813011130

Se lling my 728i as i now have a work van, i know Alot of People say this but this is a genuine sale (orange van in pics) and as im only driving it the weekends the wife wont drive such a big car which is the only reason im selling.

The car is a beuty to drive. Auto box is super smooth changes up and down smooth as you like manual mode works as it should. Brakes are spot on and very sharp. Tyres are 4 or So mm with a 5th full spare.

A couple marks around the car but nothing to be noted . two small scuff Marks on the bump strip. Which may come off with some polish/tcut(pictured)

Inside has electric grey heated seats. Rear cup holders etc the car is a luxury to drive and drives down the road with no noises knocks or play.

Only issue inside is the clocks fade slightly sometimes which is a common issue but words are still readable

I'm sure i will regret selling this but i just dont need a big car any more.

Car has Mot till 03/01/18 currently 142k miles on the clock. Full service history up to 136k engine starts on the button pulls very smoothly and runs perfectly and as many know are pretty much bullet proof.

The buyer will not be disappointed...

              Viewing welcome evenings or weekends.

Not being that electronically minded, this has me stumped, and I guess probably fiddly and expensive.

Since I picked up the individual in August, It's been under a cover.

I have now moved her into my workshop.

As you can see in the photo, the fan blower is switched to full, but there is nothing happening.

Is this a hidden fuse issue, or do I have to pull the dash?

I have a 2000 e38 that has been sitting for months, I tried to diagnose the problem but I'm already $2200 in the hole.

I'm about to give up, the car won't turn over or crank, all you hear is a click when I turn the key.

I was told it could be starter, so i took off starter and had it tested 10 times. It passed.

But it still does the same thing,

And I also had battery tested and it passed.

                  Help please,

I hate to see such a beautiful car go to the junkyard!!!!!

A couple of months ago i got myself a prepaid Sim card for the car phone system — BMW E38 forum

A couple of months ago, i got myself a prepaid Sim card for the car phone system. It worked fine but i was getting sick of the prepaid stuff. So yesterday i went to Vodafone, where i already have an contract with my phone. Got another contract for the carphone so i dont have to pre pay anymore.

The other Prepaid card was a microsim as well as the new one from Vodafone. But i dont get a connection with the network. Card is accepted though. If i put the microsim in my phone, it does work. Anyone of you know where the problem lies? My best guess is that its beyond the frequency the car system can handle? Thanks in advance.

REAR BALL JOINT PRESS TOOL: Last week I replaced both rear ball joints on my 97. I found this tool greatly helped me get the job done, so I'm recommending it to you. The photos show it is solidly built and can easily handle the job. It also does e39's. DESIGN FEATURES: The built-in ball bearings ease the torque needed to press the joint out of the carrier. The machined slice off one side of receiver cup allows the cup to fit into the tight area next to the hub during the removal procedure. Also note the head end of the large threaded driver bolt: It keys into cuts in the driver cups to prevent the bolt from rotating. I think this is a Pro-Auto Tools product. I purchased my copy through BavAuto.com. It's a great tool for this job.

Does anyone know if I can simply swap seats for heated ones, install the buttons (and obviously some other stuff), if everything would work? Or since this package was never installed initially, we're talking a way worse "upgrade" due to wiring harness issues and what-not? Just curious. Thanks (in advance).

Ok guys, I have a 2000 740i and I'm having some issues starting it.

The car cranks and turns over but it won't stay on, I don't know much about cars but I have tried my best following DIY videos.

Every time I try to turn the car on I hear a rattling noise coming from the engine bay. I suspected it was my timing chain guides, but yesterday I removed my valley pan and found no pieces of the guides inside it. Clearly, stating it is not my timing guides.

If anyone can help me with some info on what it might be please let me know.

                                Sincerely, only7s

Have a crankshaft sensor/pulse generator issue. The sensor shows a resistance of over 600 ohms but when checked at the top of the engine, no resistance. So bad cable, right? Problem is the cable is part of the wiring harness and no one sells the cable. Amazon does have some with the cable attached, but they don't have the magnetic part sticking out and I'm afraid to try them. So I'm going to create my own cable. But before I start buying plug from donor cars, one question. What is the middle terminal in the upper engine plug for? Any insight or even better a schematic?

SES light. Brake, ABS, DSC lights. Nav unit cuts on and off by itself. I swapped nav unit and it has made no difference.

Checked passenger floor for water, dry. No moisture.

Abs was rebuilt in last year.

                                      Light Control Module?

                                      Where would you start?

                                      Thanks!

Trouble shooting help: Radio/Nav cuts on off by itself. Signal indicators work outside but not always inside in cluster. Abs module rebuilt, but all 3 lights are on now. Lights don't flash when locked on exterior. Tried battery disconnect. I'm thinking it could be light control module / and or nav unit failing. Thoughts? Edwin Trevor Nick What should I replace first? (Opened passenger visor which typically causes weirdness if it's the ignition switch. No change) #Me38yChristmas

[Guess it didn't post the first time] hello guys so today I started the fun process of changing my valleypan gasket and it see that there's a ton of oil in my intake manifold I'm thinking the OSV is bad. Since I'm not lil low on the cash flow I was doing some looking on forums and some say that the diaphragm inside may not be damaged but might only need to be cleaned and it'll be good to go. Any thoughts, advice?

I ease up and let her go down to 1500 rpm she cools back down.... arghh... such riddles indeed. 1995 740 IL M-60 engine

Help! Need guidance! My baby HATES the cold! The other day it was 9 outside and I started the beast, power steering pump whining. Drove a block and the trac, brake, and abs light come on yellow. Steering quits whining but its real heavy. Restart car and the lights stay out. Drive a bit, steering goes back to normal. Today, same thing in 15 degrees but now the lights keep coming back....? Speed sensor going bad? Or maybe something with the steering angle senor? I'm lost...

                                                    Hey everybody!

I'm looking for an ABS module for my car because mine has the typical problem.

When my engine hits 90^ the abs lights go on.

I've read the fault codes ald the abs module needs replacement but must have the same code as mine and come from a 7 series.

                                                    I drive a 728ia from 1999. (Facelift)

Does someone know were to find them or is there someone who has one that he is willing to sell? Thanks alot!

See picture for exact code. (Its the black piece on the left that I need)

So I disconnected the battery for a little bit and when I hooked it back up and started my car it shut right off, did it about 3 times in a row. Then it was running rough of a bit. I turned it off waited a min. Then started it again, still a little rough but not as bad, it's been running and is about at operating temp. And has smoothed out. Has this happened to anyone else, and what should I be checking. Thanks

Wanted to see if you guys have some info and tips on eliminating the front EDC and rear SLS.

I've seen several post on forums but they're not very descriptive.

I also read that Bavauto has an elimination kit but can not find the kit available I guess.

740i - 445 000 kms. I wanted to solve the ticking sound, i was sure it's a loosen oil pump, and thought i'm going to find tons of bolts and pieces of chain guides in the oil pan, but i was wrong!

Look's like the previous owner solved loosen pump because all the bolts except one were tight and there were marks of bolts and threads on both oil pump and oil pan , that im guessing once fell out and done this damage.

Also tightened the oil pump chain a bit wich was veeery loose, cleaned everything and changed the oil pan gasket, oil& filter, but the ticking sound at cold starts remains.

I'm changing the crankshaft chain tensioner on monday, i hope that'll help! :(

Getting the P0442 EVAP Emission Control System Leak (small) and I cannot pass emissions. Gas cap was tested and passed, but wondering if my first attempt to keep the code cleared is to buy another gas cap. What has been your experience with this? 1999 740il running fine otherwise but I have to pass emissions by the end of the month. Help!
